President Pierce urging President Obama to veto RLA changes‏

Posted by admin on February 8, 2012

BLET National President Dennis Pierce today sent a letter to President Obama urging him to veto the FAA Reauthorization bill, which was passed yesterday and contains anti-worker provisions that are designed to weaken the Railway Labor Act and to end the discretion of the National Mediation Board to decide when a representation election will be held. For a more detailed explanation of the ways that this legislation intends to strip airline and railroad workers of their rights, please see the section entitled “The War on Workers Wages on…” in the February Legislative Update on the BLET Auxiliary website at:
I strongly encourage you to read the complete text of President Pierce’s poignant letter to President Obama at:
Also included in the February Legislative Update,, in the section entitled “House Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill,” is a report on H.R. 7, The American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act, that was the subject of the legislative alert sent on February 2. The good news is that the bipartisan amendment to strike the language from the bill that would  allow an increase in the limit on truck weight on our nation’s highways was passed. Thanks to everyone who made calls about this. This bill, however, still contains numerous other provisions that are detrimental for railroad employees and their families. Please continue to urge your representatives to vote against this harmful legislation.
